The Stony Brook University (SBU) Research Mine:
A Research Expertise Database for the School of Medicine

NOTE: This site uses a database from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is meant only to show the capability of the Research Mine.

The SBU Research Mine uses a tag based approach to find faculty at the School of Medicine with a particular research expertise. Tags are derived from PubMed, NIH CRISP, Center for Disease Control and research techniques and technologies.

Using the tabs above users can find expert faculty members through their publications, grants, techniques/technologies or industry-related tools (patents, copyrights, scientific advisory boards, industry supported research).

Currently, the research expertise database is populated with faculty from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine as a prototype for the Departments of Pathology and Surgery. There are XXX School of Medicine faculty included in the database. The database includes:

  • AAA faculty publications listed
  • BBB total publications
  • CCC distinct MESH terms
  • DDD faculty grants listed
  • EEE total grants
  • FFF distinct CRISP terms

MESH and CRISP terms provide the ability to characterize faculty research expertise. The terms also allow quick cross-referencing to other faculty with the like terms. With a focus on inter-disciplinary research endeavors, a collaborative opportunity across multiple faculty members can be facilitated. Pending approval and funding for expansion of this prototype, it will be expanded to include all of the departments at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
